The Kymi Sinfonietta is delighted to welcome Christian Kluxen, the Danish “Mighty Viking”, and star Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud. Edvard Grieg is the universally loved Norwegian master of National-Romantic music, but his fellow countryman and contemporary Johan Halvorson is undeservedly lesser known in Finland. Kraggerud excels in a version for violin and orchestra of Grieg’s emotionally powerful Violin Sonata No. 3, and Halvorsen’s Violin Concerto. In his Holberg Suite, Grieg sought inspiration in the Baroque, as did Stravinsky in his Neoclassical Pulcinella Suite. Tonight’s concert is ingenious in that it weaves together movements from the two suites.
