Once again we have another treat in store for film and music lovers. Chaplin’s ever-popular silent films are best when accompanied by live music, and especially a full orchestra. Though the figure of Chaplin the tramp is familiar to all, many may be surprised to learn that he also composed the music for his later silent films. This concert features two Chaplin classics, to music by him performed by the Kymi Sinfonietta. Conducting Timothy Brock’s reconstructions is Kimmo Tullila. A Dog’s Life is the heart-warming story of the meeting of a down-and-out, a stray dog and a bar singer, while The Pilgrim tells the light, satirical story of an escaped convict who steals a minister’s clothes to replace his prison uniform and ends up in crazy situations such as giving a sermon.
