In honour of our 20th anniversary, we have the pleasure of premiering a work – Phantasma – by Erkki-Sven Tüür, 60 this year and one of the most famous Estonian composers worldwide. The work was commissioned jointly by the Kymi Sinfonietta and two other orchestras. The programme also features the second violin concerto by Kalevi Aho, who is 70 this year. Commissioned and premiered by the Kymi Sinfonietta a couple of years ago, the concerto was so popular that we are delighted to play it again with brilliant violinist Elina Vähälä as the soloist. In addition to performing in our two home cities – Kotka, 140 this year, and present-day Kouvola 10 – we will be repeating the concert at the magnificent Temppeliaukio Church finished 50 years ago in Helsinki.
