DESCRIPTION:Works by the early Classical era feature far less often in the repertoire of the orchestral giants than those by Mozart or Haydn. Tonight is therefore a major exception\, focusing as it does on compositions by two of the great Johann Sebastian’s sons: Carl Philipp Emanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann. \nThe programme also includes a Fantasia for solo piano by C.P.E.\, performed on a fortepiano. Beethoven’s third piano concerto operates in very different worlds\, though the listener may still detect echoes of the earlier Bachs.
