A concert steeped in atmosphere focusing on Arvo Pärt, pillar of Estonian classical music and one of his nation’s best-known contemporary composers. Tonight’s conductor is another Estonian, Tōnu Kaljuste: Estonian music influencer, choir leader and founder of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Already a legendary composer, Pärt is known for his meditative works and his phenomenal ability to create a sense of deep peace, drawing on what is known as a ‘tintinnabuli’ technique and elements of Renaissance polyphony. The concert begins with four Preludes and Fugues by J. S. Bach, followed by Symphony No. 2 by French-Swiss Arthur Honegger.
