The spring season begins with a burst of energy under the baton of well-known opera conductor Alberto Hold-Garrido. Aulis Sallinen’s Sunrise Serenade captures the first rays of sunlight in bracing trumpet tones. The soloist in Mozart’s effervescent fifth violin concerto is Kotka-born Essi Höglund now launched on a fine versatile career. The concert ends with a work packed with passion, Schubert’s third symphony.
