For this concert we are honoured to welcome one of Finland’s most celebrated conductors, Osmo Vänskä, bringing with him three works full of light and joy. The other eagerly-awaited artists at this concert are pianist Juho Pohjonen, and the leader of the Minnesota Orchestra, Erin Keefe, to play the Mendelssohn double concerto for violin and piano overflowing with joie de vivre.
The works by American composer Jessie Montgomery, Strum included, are full of life and suggestions of folk music. Rounding off the concert is Beethoven’s eighth, a symphony well seasoned with humour.
