Symphony No. 4 in B Flat, Op. 60
Young London conducting talent Kerem Hasan meets Jonathan Roozeman, the Finnish cellist rising comet-like on the international firmament in one of the best-known works by Tchaikovsky, the Rococo Variations. Flanking this virtuoso masterpiece with its Mozartian ambience are two very different works representing two eras. Within Her Arms, a heartrendingly beautiful elegy dedicated by Anna Clyne to the memory of her mother, was composed as a commission for Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. By the time he wrote his fourth symphony, Beethoven was well on the way to embracing the ideals of the Romantic era, but still took a little side-step into playful Classicism.
