To honour its 25th anniversary, the Kymi Sinfonietta welcomes an old friend: Yasuo Shinozaki, our Artistic Director from 2007 to 2014. With him he is bringing one of the best-known works in the orchestral repertoire, Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony. Building bridges between Europe and Japan are the other two works on the programme, the Marimba Concerto by Akira Miyoshi drawing on the musical traditions of Japan and France, and the Concertino for Two Percussionists by Toshi Ichiyanagi, an award-winning cosmopolitan and admirer of Finnish music. The soloist is Japanese-born Kuniko Kato, whose elegant playing has charmed audiences, conductors and composers the world over. Her fellow-percussionist comes from the ranks of our own orchestra, Vladimir Belov.
