The Romantic era blossoms in all its profusion! Our concert begins with Schumann’s Overture, scherzo and finale bursting with optimism. Mendelssohn’s violin concerto is one of the foremost and most frequently performed representatives of its genre, enchanting the listener from the very first notes of the its poignant opening melody. We end with a ride through the majestic Scottish Highlands to the accompaniment of Mendelssohn’s third symphony. Acting as our charming concerto guide is Canadian Blake Pouliot, a violinist familiar to audiences on both
sides of the Atlantic. Holding the reins is the winner of the 2021 Panula International Conducting Competition Jascha von der Goltz.
