In honour of Women’s Day we present music by magnificent women composers from different eras and genres. The broad-minded attitude to music of tonight’s conductor, Aliisa Neige Barrière, is reflected in her choice of repertoire for this concert. In addition to works by Grieg and Sibelius we will be treated to Childhood Fantasies by pioneering Finnish female composer and symphonist Helvi Leiviskä, Overflow by British GRAMMY nominee Anna Clyne, the Suite for Violin and String Orchestra by Swedish Laura Netzel, and Lotta Wennäkoski’s Nosztalgiaim based on two Hungarian folk songs.
