This concert by members of the Kymi Sinfonietta’s own ranks brings together works by three composers of the Classical era: Salieri, Haydn and Mozart. As an opening taster it begins with the overture to Armida, an opera by Salieri reflecting the new spirit of the times and heralding his role as one of the most celebrated opera composers of his day. Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante reveals the varied talents of the orchestra’s own players in an airy, lively work greatly admired ever since its premiere and allowing its violin, cello, oboe and bassoon players ample opportunities to shine. Crowning the concert is Mozart’s iconic Symphony no. 40 – a work of infinitely memorable melodies that have haunted both concert halls and the silver screen.
