Curated by Iselin himself\, this vibrant concert brings the rich musical heritage of the Baltic Sea region to life through dance rhythms\, bird-inspired imagery and the mystique of northern nature. A connecting theme of life by the Baltic Sea runs through the programme\, while Mendelssohn’s youthful First Symphony adds an extra burst of energy to the evening. Danish composer Carl Nielsen wrote his Flute Concerto a century ago\, and audiences in the Kymenlaakso region now have a rare opportunity to hear this lyrical and richly coloured work performed live. The soloist is the versatile and charismatic Annaleena Jämsä.

At the same time\, Kuustonen fulfils a long-held dream of performing as a soloist with a larger orchestral ensemble. This unique evening will feature both familiar songs and new material. The longtime friends aim to create a spontaneous and unforgettable shared experience. The collaboration is also a tribute to Kuustonen’s diverse artistic journey as well as a bold step towards something new. “Fifty years have passed since I wrote my first song\, and I still experience the creation of every song as a miracle. For this Thursday evening\, our string ensemble offers two magnificent string quartets\, both moving in deeply emotional waters while cherishing melodic beauty. Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 4 is a profoundly personal work that reflects the contradictions of its\nera and one of which the composer himself was very proud. Ravel’s String Quartet became his first major success\, and audiences also received it with enthusiasm – it is a masterful combination of impressionistic tones and elegant musical storytelling.
