SUMMARY:HELLUN HELLALLA (HELENA’S KITCHEN) – HAPPINESS
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Topi Lehtipuu
\nSoloist: Helena Juntunen\, soprano\nExpert: Mikko Sams \nThis programme is in Finnish \nHellun Hellalla is a show hosted with humour by Helena Juntunen\, combining lieder\, opera\, music theatre and a psychology lecture. The programme explores songs and opera scenes that express the feeling of happiness throughout music history\, freely crossing stylistic boundaries. The emotion itself is also examined in an academic spirit under the guidance of Professor Mikko Sams\, a specialist in cognitive neuroscience\, who creates a cosy\, homespun atmosphere from the psychologist’s chair as he talks to the audience about happiness. As our audience knows\, Helena\nJuntunen is one of Finland’s most versatile opera singers\, with impressive acting skills and a natural gift for comedy. This concert concludes Topi Lehtipuu’s season as the orchestra’s Artistic Partner.

SUMMARY:SIBELIUS!
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Jukka Untamala
\nSoloist: Sueye Park\, violin\nLouise Farrenc: Overture No. 1 in E minor\, Op. 23\nJean Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D minor\, Op. 47\nJean Sibelius: Symphony No. 3 in C major\, Op. 52 \nWe are delighted to welcome Sueye Park\, winner of the 2025 Sibelius Violin Competition\, whose impressively assured sound convinced the jury. The deeply moving power and beauty of Sibelius’s musical language reflecting Finnish nature and spirit is crystallised in the most recorded violin concerto of the 20th century.\nIt raises the soloist’s role to extraordinary heights of technical virtuosity and profound expression. Sibelius’s Symphony No. 3\, radiating a clarity reminiscent of the Viennese classics\, and the expressive overture by Louise Farrenc – a driving force in 19th- century Parisian musical life – are interpreted under the direction of the versatile Jukka Untamala.

SUMMARY:IN THE FLOW OF MELODY – CHAMBER CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:Kymi Sinfonietta string quartet: Sergei Tiutiunik\, violin – Linda Fogelsone\, violin – Margarethe Breit\, viola – Aleksandra Petrova\, cello\nDmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 4 in D major\, Op. 83\nMaurice Ravel: String Quartet in F major \nThe chamber concerts by our own musicians are created with great heart and artistic ambition\, highlighting the personal interests of our players. For this Thursday evening\, our string ensemble offers two magnificent string quartets\, both moving in deeply emotional waters while cherishing melodic beauty. Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 4 is a profoundly personal work that reflects the contradictions of its\nera and one of which the composer himself was very proud. Ravel’s String Quartet became his first major success\, and audiences also received it with enthusiasm – it is a masterful combination of impressionistic tones and elegant musical storytelling.

SUMMARY:EMOTIONAL ENCOUNTERS concert series: “Conflicted” – The Unanswered Question
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: James Sherlock\nCharles Ives: The Unanswered Question\, S. 50
\nJean Françaix: Dixtuor\nFrank Bridge: Lament\, H.117\nEdgar Varèse: Octandre\nFrank Martin: Concerto for Seven Wind Instruments\, Timpani\, Percussion and Strings \nThe soloistic spotlight falls on chamber ensembles formed from the orchestra’s own ranks\, under the baton of a new conducting collaborator\, James Sherlock. This five-work series offers a fascinating look at different 20th-century compositional styles at a moment when composers were exploring the future directions of art music. Ives creates a philosophical dialogue between instrumental groups\, Françaix chooses humour as his stylistic tool\, Bridge voices his opposition to war through music\, Varèse focuses on playful rhythms\, and Martin brings together elements of past and present. Each composer inspires the listener in his own way and leads us into a world of intriguing musical colours.
