Finland’s Minna Leinonen\, short-listed for this year’s Teosto Prize\, set about composing a piece called Kaarne because of the image created by the word. It alludes\, she says\, both to the cry of a crow and to woody sounds\, for the string instruments that constitute the nucleus of the work are made of wood. The individual songs have\, however\, acquired a prominent role in his repertoire. Following the death of his father\, Samuli released a second album\, Vaiheet 2\, of his father’s compositions. DESCRIPTION:A concert steeped in atmosphere focusing on Arvo Pärt\, pillar of Estonian classical music and one of his nation’s best-known contemporary composers. Tonight’s conductor is another Estonian\, Tōnu Kaljuste: Estonian music influencer\, choir leader and founder of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Already a legendary composer\, Pärt is known for his meditative works and his phenomenal ability to create a sense of deep peace\, drawing on what is known as a ‘tintinnabuli’ technique and elements of Renaissance polyphony.
