SUMMARY:BETWEEN TWO LIGHTS – music and poetry work: Poems of Love and Longing
DESCRIPTION:Leader and soloist: Jukka Perko\, saxophone\nHannu-Pekka Björkman\, voice\nJarmo Saari\, electric guitar\nTeemu Viinikainen\, acoustic guitar \nBetween Two Lights is a music and poetry work that takes the listener on a journey across the inner landscapes of the heart. Together with the ensemble Avara and actor Hannu-Pekka Björkman\, Jukka Perko has created a work where the clear skies and waters of the North meet. Reflections on the beauty and fragility of human beings hover above them. The concert features words and sparks from some of Finland’s most beloved poets: Katri Vala\, Kirsi Kunnas\, Eeva Kilpi\, Pentti Saarikoski\, Lauri Viita and many others give words to the wordless – the mystery of love and\nlife. The day and night are bright.

SUMMARY:SNOWMAN AND NUTCRACKER
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Kimmo Tullila \nTwo heart-warming Christmas classics in both audio and visual format. The Kymi\nSinfonietta gets into Christmas mode with the utterly delightful Snowman film given a magical boost by our live orchestral accompaniment. The silent animation based on a story by British children’s writer Raymond Biggs is best known for its signature tune Walking in the Air. Also on the list of Christmas ‘musts’ of listeners both young and old are the enchanting notes of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite that transport us to a nocturnal fairytale world.

Krzysztof Dobosiewicz and Kymi Sinfonietta clarinettist Csaba Rajnai first joined forces nearly 20 years ago for the premiere of Dobosiewicz’s first clarinet concerto. Today’s third concerto really does put the instrument through its paces. Huba Hollòköi also conducts Martijn Padding’s dynamic Glimpse and Gounod’s spirited\, classical first symphony.

We are also delighted to welcome two guests from Estonia: star pianist Johan Randvere\, one of his country’s most interesting international young musicians\, and Peeter Vähi\, the composer of inspiringly exotic and meditative music. The concert is a fascinating survey of the rich tapestry of Estonian music of the 20th and 21st centuries. It also presents some leading Estonian composers who have made a lasting mark both in their homeland and on the international scene – such as Arvo Pärt\, who recently turned 90\, Erkki-Sven Tüür\, Heino Eller and Lepo Sumera – and represents a magnificent meeting of the diverse skills of Estonian and Finnish musicians. \nIn partnership with the City of Kotka

SUMMARY:“LOUD SILENCES” – COMIC AND TRAGIC SCENES FROM A COUPLE’S LIFE
DESCRIPTION:Conductor & soloist: Topi Lehtipuu\, tenor\nWoman: Matleena Kuusniemi\nScript: Anu Arasu & Topi Lehtipuu \nOur Artistic Partner Topi Lehtipuu has created a host of imaginative programmes to delight our audiences\, and tonight’s is no exception. It focuses on communication between husband and wife: tragic and comic scenes in which silence acquires many\nmanifestations. They afford us glimpses of the lives of couples of different ages\, stories based on a shared rhythm and interaction between two people. Woven into the drama are magnificent snatches of music in which the orchestra has a stage role all of its own. The script is by Topi Lehtipuu and Anu Arasu.

SUMMARY:TUULENTEI – IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MARTTI POKELA
DESCRIPTION:Tuulentei: Soila Sariola\, vocals\nPetteri Sariola\, guitar\nJyri Sariola\, drums \nJanuary 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Finnish kantele player Martti Pokela. In honour of the centenary\, three of his descendants wish to honour their grandfather’s musical legacy by combining forces in a trio with a larger orchestral line-up. Coupled with some moving arrangements of pieces by him are some new ones of the trio’s own. Martti’s original idiom and passionate love of music have brought the three Sariolas together and inspired this tribute to the past.
