SUMMARY:FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT
DESCRIPTION:Talented young London-born Kerem Hasan tonight conducts the Kymi Sinfonietta in a fascinating interplay of darkness and light. We begin with Mozart’s compact\, exquisitely-crafted Symphony no. 35\, followed by a dusky concerto – Dark with Excessive Bright – exploring the meditative timbres of the double bass by American composer Missy Mazzoli. The second half of our concert is\, by contrast\, bathed in light. Milhaud’s carnivalesque ballet pantomime The Ox on the Roof and Kodály’s heated\, atmospheric folk dances are full of joy\, optimism and zest. \nConductor:\nKerem Hasan \nSoloist:\nJohannes Raikas\, double bass \nProgramme:\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony no. 35 in D major\, “Haffner” KV 385\nMissy Mazzoli: Dark with Excessive Bright\,  Concerto for double bass & string orchestra\nDarius Milhaud: Le bœuf sur le toit op. 58 (The Ox on the Roof)\nZoltán Kodály: Dances of Galánta

SUMMARY:OPENING CONCERT OF THE AUTUMN SEASON: THE MAGIC OF MUSIC!
DESCRIPTION:The Kymi Sinfonietta begins its autumn season in cheerful mood – with a concert that invites us to enjoy the moment and let ourselves be carried along by the music. Multi-instrumentalist I-Han Fu is fast making a name for himself as a conductor\, too\, and tonight conjures up some lavishly colourful moods. In other words\, we can look forward to some delicious shades of folk music and dance rhythms from Spain\, Hungary\, Poland and Romania\, along with glimpses of a fairytale world in stage music by Sibelius and Mendelssohn. Petteri Iivonen\, concertmaster of the Paris Opera\, will generate lots of virtuosic energy in some breath-taking works for violin. \nConductor:\nI-Han Fu \nSoloist:\nPetteri Iivonen\, violin \nProgramme:\nFelix Mendelssohn: Music for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ op. 61 (mts 1\, 5 & 7)\nCamille Saint-Saëns: Havanaise for violin & orchestra op. 83\nFranz Schubert: Polonaise in B-flat major for violin & orchestra\, D 580\nPablo de Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen op. 20\nJean Sibelius: Valse triste\nJean Sibelius: Valse romantique\nZoltán Kodály: Dances of Marosszék\nJohannes Brahms: Hungarian Dances (nos 1\, 3\, 5\, 6 & 10)
