SUMMARY:BAROQUE HITS
DESCRIPTION:Director: Raymond Cox\, violin \nJean-Philippe Rameau: Music from the operas Les Indes galantes and Les Boréades\nJohann Sebastian Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F major\, BWV 1046\nJohann Sebastian Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major\, BWV 1050\nJean-Philippe Rameau: Music from the operas Naïs and Zoroastre \nFollowing the tremendous success of last spring’s Baroque concert\, the orchestra returns with a programme bringing together some of the era’s most dazzling works – true musical gems. At the heart of the evening are Bach’s celebrated Brandenburg Concertos\, represented here by the first and fifth concertos from the series. These masterpieces embody the splendour of Baroque instrumental music and rival even Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in popularity. Throughout the concert\, the concertos alternate with Rameau’s dance-infused operatic music – Baroque theatre music at its finest. This magnificent programme has been curated by Kymi Sinfonietta’s concertmaster\, Raymond Cox.

SUMMARY:LIQUID MOON
DESCRIPTION:Conductor and piano soloist: James Sherlock \nLudwig van Beethoven: Egmont Overture\, Op. 84\nArtturi Rönkä: Liquid Moon\, piano concerto (world premiere)\nFranz Schubert: Symphony No. 4 in C minor\, D 417\, “Tragic” \nThis richly layered concert draws inspiration from literature. The evening opens with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture\, based on the tragedy written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The highlight of the concert is the world premiere of Artturi Rönkä’s piano concerto Liquid Moon\, with conductor James Sherlock also appearing as soloist. The composer drew inspiration from Marcel Proust’s novel sequence In Search of Lost Time as well as William Carlos Williams’s poem Winter Trees\, which contains the phrase “liquid moon”. The concert concludes with Schubert’s Fourth Symphony\, known as the “Tragic” Symphony – although its hints of darkness and melancholy never fully take centre stage.

SUMMARY:AUTUMN GARDENS
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Nicolò Umberto Foron \nJean Sibelius: Suite from the incidental music to Belshazzar’s Feast\, Op. 51 (Oriental Procession\, Solitude\, Nocturne and Khadra’s Dance)\nEinojuhani Rautavaara: Autumn Gardens\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C major\, K. 551 \nThis concert opens a window onto the striking contrast between the magnificent colours of autumn and the fading splendour of summer. Inspired by oriental musical influences\, Sibelius’s Belshazzar’s Feast shimmers with fascinating orchestral colours and winding melodies. Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Autumn Gardens\, meanwhile\, transports listeners into an English garden. In the composer’s own words: “Autumn is also the season of foliage\, frost and death. Thus\, at the end\, the music becomes a solemn dance\, con grandezza. Perhaps one hears a sarabande for the dying bloom of summer – or\, in the words of T.S. Eliot\, ‘late roses filled with early snow’.” The evening’s conductor\, Nicolò Umberto Foron\, has been named one of the “30 Under 30” artists of 2025\, giving audiences the chance to experience one of the most promising young talents of his generation.
