DESCRIPTION:The Kymi Sinfonietta’s May Day concerts herald the advent of spring with a programme of cheerful music in the company of top artists. Setting the tone of this light-hearted concert will be rising-star conductor Sauli Saarinen\, Marika Hölttä (coloratura soprano) and Aarne Pelkonen (baritone) in a cavalcade of rousing entertainment\, light classics and speak-to-the-heart evergreens\, plus tunes from the silver screen and musicals. DESCRIPTION:Tonight’s conductor\, Juha Kangas – “father” of the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra – has reaped many accolades and distinctions in the course of an extensive and varied career both at home in Finland and abroad. With him he is bringing two works by Mozart and two by Latvian Pēteris Vasks\, a composer with whom he has long been collaborating. It was to Kangas that Vasks dedicated his Musica Serena. The soloist in Vasks’s second Cello Concerto is Finnish virtuoso Marko Ylönen\, who has also recorded the concerto with Kangas.
