The other eagerly-awaited artists at this concert are pianist Juho Pohjonen\, and the leader of the Minnesota Orchestra\, Erin Keefe\, to play the Mendelssohn double concerto for violin and piano overflowing with joie de vivre. \nThe works by American composer Jessie Montgomery\, Strum included\, are full of life and suggestions of folk music. DESCRIPTION:Works by the early Classical era feature far less often in the repertoire of the orchestral giants than those by Mozart or Haydn. Tonight is therefore a major exception\, focusing as it does on compositions by two of the great Johann Sebastian’s sons: Carl Philipp Emanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann. \nThe programme also includes a Fantasia for solo piano by C.P.E.\, performed on a fortepiano. Beethoven’s third piano concerto operates in very different worlds\, though the listener may still detect echoes of the earlier Bachs.
