SUMMARY:TUULENTEI – IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MARTTI POKELA
DESCRIPTION:Tuulentei: Soila Sariola\, vocals\nPetteri Sariola\, guitar\nJyri Sariola\, drums \nJanuary 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Finnish kantele player Martti Pokela. In honour of the centenary\, three of his descendants wish to honour their grandfather’s musical legacy by combining forces in a trio with a larger orchestral line-up. Coupled with some moving arrangements of pieces by him are some new ones of the trio’s own. Martti’s original idiom and passionate love of music have brought the three Sariolas together and inspired this tribute to the past.

DESCRIPTION:Conductor & soloist: Topi Lehtipuu\, tenor\nWoman: Matleena Kuusniemi\nScript: Anu Arasu & Topi Lehtipuu \nOur Artistic Partner Topi Lehtipuu has created a host of imaginative programmes to delight our audiences\, and tonight’s is no exception. It focuses on communication between husband and wife: tragic and comic scenes in which silence acquires many\nmanifestations. They afford us glimpses of the lives of couples of different ages\, stories based on a shared rhythm and interaction between two people. Woven into the drama are magnificent snatches of music in which the orchestra has a stage role all of its own. The script is by Topi Lehtipuu and Anu Arasu.

Jukka Harju\, a leading name in Finnish French horn circles\, admirably demonstrates the brilliance and singing quality of the instrument in the spirited second horn concerto composed by Richard Strauss late in life. Nor is there any lack of energy flow in the closing work on the programme\, Beethoven’s seventh symphony\, each movement of which is a feast of life and light.
