SUMMARY:EMOTIONAL ENCOUNTERS concert series: “Yearning” – The Colours of Longing
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Elisar Riddelin
\nSoloist: Joonas Ahonen\, piano\nZoltán Kodály: Nyári este (Summer Evening)
\nMatei Gheorghiu: From the Village of Nowhere (piano concerto)\nOttorino Respighi: Gli uccelli (The Birds)\, P.154\nManuel de Falla: Suite No. 1 from the ballet The Three-Cornered Hat \nThis concert is full of colour and atmosphere – and we also witness the return of a competition winner. There is already a hint of spring in the air\, and these painterly musical images draw their shades from the beauty of nature\, the fire of emotion and playful rhythms. Matei Gheorghiu’s piano concerto led him to victory in both the 5th\nInternational Uuno Klami Composition Competition and the audience vote; the jury described the work as energetic and fresh. The soloist is the dazzlingly virtuosic Joonas Ahonen. On the podium is one of today’s most exciting young talents\, Elisar Riddelin.

DESCRIPTION:Leader and soloist: Jukka Perko\, saxophone\nHannu-Pekka Björkman\, voice\nJarmo Saari\, electric guitar\nTeemu Viinikainen\, acoustic guitar \nBetween Two Lights is a music and poetry work that takes the listener on a journey across the inner landscapes of the heart. Together with the ensemble Avara and actor Hannu-Pekka Björkman\, Jukka Perko has created a work where the clear skies and waters of the North meet. The concert features words and sparks from some of Finland’s most beloved poets: Katri Vala\, Kirsi Kunnas\, Eeva Kilpi\, Pentti Saarikoski\, Lauri Viita and many others give words to the wordless – the mystery of love and\nlife. The day and night are bright.

SUMMARY:HELLUN HELLALLA (HELENA’S KITCHEN) – HAPPINESS
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Topi Lehtipuu
\nSoloist: Helena Juntunen\, soprano\nExpert: Mikko Sams \nThis programme is in Finnish \nHellun Hellalla is a show hosted with humour by Helena Juntunen\, combining lieder\, opera\, music theatre and a psychology lecture. The programme explores songs and opera scenes that express the feeling of happiness throughout music history\, freely crossing stylistic boundaries. The emotion itself is also examined in an academic spirit under the guidance of Professor Mikko Sams\, a specialist in cognitive neuroscience\, who creates a cosy\, homespun atmosphere from the psychologist’s chair as he talks to the audience about happiness. As our audience knows\, Helena\nJuntunen is one of Finland’s most versatile opera singers\, with impressive acting skills and a natural gift for comedy. This concert concludes Topi Lehtipuu’s season as the orchestra’s Artistic Partner.
