This concert spotlights moments in history up to the present day. As our guests we welcome two brilliant Hungarian-born musicians: József Hárs, now living in Finland, and Gabor Tarkövi, principal trumpet in the Berlin Philharmonic and soloist of world renown. Haydn’s virtuosic trumpet concerto was a chance for the composer to explore the potential of the then only recently modernised trumpet. Echoes of the past may also be detected in Lotta Wennäkoski’s Verdigris drawing on elements of Sibelius’s tone poem En Saga and Mozart’s graceful Posthorn Serenade – a flashback to how the post was delivered in the early 18th century.
