Soloist:
Iiro Rantala, piano
Our Artistic Partner Jukka Perko and composer-pianist Iiro Rantala invite us to join them in the Venice of days gone by. Rantala’s new production Veneziana takes a humorous look at great names in and the cultural history of the famous Italian city. We visit Claudio Monteverdi as he pores over the score of an opera. Across the city, Antonio Vivaldi sits composing his Four Seasons and wondering what that mysterious distant land of Finland might be like in winter. By contrast, Giacomo Casanova the writer and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte roam the narrow streets in search of company. Veneziana also focuses on the last moments of Richard Wagner, Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Diaghilev in the magical city. Veneziana has been recorded with players from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
