W. A. Mozart:
Sinfonia concertante in E-flat for four winds and orchestra
Symphony No. 80
This concert spotlights some of the Kymi Sinfonietta’s own players under its leader Raymond Cox. Many will recognise them from their charismatic performances on social media. Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante brings out the finest characteristics of each of the solo instruments, drawing them together in a work that is full of playfulness and delightful humour. Regarded as a great humourist in classical music, Haydn also had an extremely keen feel for narrative and contrast. These attributes also join hands in his Symphony No. 80, in which humour finally has the last word.
