Talented young London-born Kerem Hasan tonight conducts the Kymi Sinfonietta in a fascinating interplay of darkness and light. We begin with Mozart\u2019s compact, exquisitely-crafted Symphony no. 35, followed by a dusky concerto \u2013 Dark with Excessive Bright \u2013 exploring the meditative timbres of the double bass by American composer Missy Mazzoli. The second half of our concert is, by contrast, bathed in light. Milhaud\u2019s carnivalesque ballet pantomime The Ox on the Roof and Kod\u00e1ly\u2019s heated, atmospheric folk dances are full of joy, optimism and zest.<\/p>\n
