The Kymi Sinfonietta welcomes German conductor Jascha von der Goltz, who gained widespread international attention on winning the first prize in the International Panula Conducting Competition in 2021. At the heart of the concert is one of the most challenging, intense works in all cello literature, the first cello concerto by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The soloist in this compelling work is Polish Maciej Kułakowski, who rose to fame on winning the first prize and a special award in the 2015 Lutosławski Competition. The concert begins with Langsamer Satz, a little late-Romantic masterpiece by Webern conjuring up the stark tranquillity of the Austrian mountains. The icing on the cake is Beethoven’s captivating, rhythmic seventh symphony.
