The message of Easter finds human and moving expression in the Resurrection oratorio by Handel. It was one of the finest works he composed during his Italian period, and tonight is a rare opportunity to hear it.

It is a great pleasure for us to welcome the inspiring, charismatic, award-winning Alexandra Dariescu back to Kymenlaakso. Ten years have passed since she greatly impressed us at her debut with us, and her visit this time is sure not to leave anyone cold.
This family concert invites all to step on board a train to Musicland. Cheerful spring sounds have woken Musicland Teddy from his winter sleep. On the way, travellers will have time to wonder at the sweet sounds from the orchestra, to scratch their heads at the antics of Hubert the Gnat, and to be reminded what a clarinet and other wind instruments sound like. Fill your backpack with curiosity and prick your ears as Satu Sopanen transports you to a springtime bonanza of singing and fun.

The Kymi Sinfonietta’s May Day concert promises sparkling good cheer and an effervescent atmosphere in a Music of Divas concert bottled by conductor-trombonist Antti Rissanen and dazzling vocalist Diandra. The latter has chosen a selection of numbers recorded by her favourite artists, such as Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Adele, Celine Dion, Gloria Gaynor, Madonna and Lady Gaga. Blessed with a fantastic voice that lends itself to all sorts of genres, Diandra has recently become well known to Finnish audiences from her appearances in, among others, popular TV shows.

The programme for this concert is an imaginative mixture of old and new. The new work by Samuli Ahonen was composed for the Kymi Sinfonietta and the winner of its category in the IV Uuno Klami Composition Competition for children and young people. Outi Tarkiainen’s The Seasons of Love is a paean to the power of love that changes with the different phases in life. Representing older music is the first violin concerto by Mozart, with the magnificent Kotka-born Essi Höglund as the soloist. The delightful Symphony No. 1 by Louise Farrenc is enjoying a renaissance in orchestras’ repertoire, and not without reason. The conductor is the versatile Ruut Kiiski, now making her first appearance with the Kymi Sinfonietta.
Come and support our budding Kymenlaakso talents! The soloists in this concert conducted by Esa Heikkilä are brilliant youngsters from the local music colleges. The experience of playing with an orchestra, of working with a conductor, and of the audience’s encouragement is rewarding to say the least and has far-reaching consequences. The soloists are chosen by audition, and the orchestra wants in this way to boost them in their careers.

It is hard to find an urban Finnish festival as varied as Kymijoen Lohisoitto. Once again it joins forces with the Kymi Sinfonietta for a June concert like no other. One of the items on the programme is a Trumpet Concerto by Marzi Nyman which, together with wizard soloist Jukka Eskola, promises some veritable fireworks.
