Kymi Sinfonietta’s May Day tradition has achieved enormous popularity year after year. This time, comic elements add extra flavour to the celebration as Mikko “Tökä” Töyssy and Mikael Konttinen join musical and humorous forces under the theme “Men in Black”.

We are delighted to welcome Sueye Park, winner of the 2025 Sibelius Violin Competition, whose impressively assured sound convinced the jury. The deeply moving power and beauty of Sibelius’s musical language reflecting Finnish nature and spirit is crystallised in the most recorded violin concerto of the 20th century.

Stabat Mater, the 13th-century poem describing Mary, the mother of Jesus, suffering at the moment of her son’s crucifixion, takes on a powerful musical form in the hands of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins – without forgetting the other ancient writings that inspired the work.

Hellun Hellalla is a show hosted with humour by Helena Juntunen, combining lieder, opera, music theatre and a psychology lecture. The programme explores songs and opera scenes that express the feeling of happiness throughout music history, freely crossing stylistic boundaries.

Between Two Lights is a music and poetry work that takes the listener on a journey across the inner landscapes of the heart. Together with the ensemble Avara and actor Hannu-Pekka Björkman, Jukka Perko has created a work where the clear skies and waters of the North meet.

Under the direction of Topi Lehtipuu, we can fully indulge in the brilliance of French music at its most enchanting and moving. Who could interpret these songs more naturally than French soprano Sandrine Piau, one of today’s most highly regarded lieder and opera artists?

A long-standing wish from our listeners comes true in this concert, which brings together two of the most beloved and frequently performed Baroque works – The Four Seasons and Water Music.
