Karl Jenkins: Stabat Mater (arr. John Gibbons)
Stabat Mater, the 13th-century poem describing Mary, the mother of Jesus, suffering at the moment of her son’s crucifixion, takes on a powerful musical form in the hands of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins – without forgetting the other ancient writings that inspired the work. In Stabat Mater, the traditional Western musical heritage encounters traditional instruments from around the world and world-
music harmonies. Latin meets several other ancient languages, including Aramaic, the mother tongue of Jesus. This richly multi-layered musical masterpiece is brought to life by the stunning Aija Puurtinen, conductor Ilkka Aunu and the Lahti Gospel Choir. Not to be missed!
