The chamber concerts by our own musicians are created with great heart and artistic ambition, highlighting the personal interests of our players. For this Thursday evening, our string ensemble offers two magnificent string quartets, both moving in deeply emotional waters while cherishing melodic beauty. Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 4 is a profoundly personal work that reflects the contradictions of its
era and one of which the composer himself was very proud. Ravel’s String Quartet became his first major success, and audiences also received it with enthusiasm – it is a masterful combination of impressionistic tones and elegant musical storytelling.
