In honour of Independence Day, we present a programme of music by great Finnish composers under the baton of Janne Nisonen. The soloist is charismatic Elina Vähälä, a violinist whose brilliant playing has enchanted audiences the world over.

Tonight we really enter into the spirit of the Eurovision Song Contest. Hanna Pakarinen, who represented Finland in 2007, and Mikael Saari, who twice excelled himself in the Finnish heats, lead us through Finland’s Eurovision Song Contest history from Laila Kinnunen (1961) to Blind Channel (2021). Along the way we will recall many hits and moments indelibly etched on the nation’s collective memory.

Andrea Portera, winner of the 2019 International Uuno Klami Composition Competition – one of the world’s biggest composition competitions in terms of the number of participants – makes an eagerly-awaited return to our region.

The Adagio & Fugue bring out the profound, more melancholy side of Mozart and demonstrate his command of counterpoint. The soloist in his Piano Concerto no. 20, heartrendingly beautiful and soaring into romantic heights, ranks among Finland’s internationally most highly-acclaimed pianists of all times, Antti Siirala.
