Conductor: Jascha von der Goltz
Soloist: Gottfried von der Goltz, violin
Maurice Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin concerto no. 3 in G, KV 216
Francis Poulenc: Sinfonietta, FP 141
We unleash an entrancing array of rich, colourful French music in this concert by two
members of a German family of musicians. Jascha von der Goltz has been here before, and we now have a chance to meet his father, too, in Mozart’s third violin concerto – a work of pure, dancing delight. Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin is a nod in the direction of 18th-century Baroque, and Poulenc’s Sinfonietta is an engaging French musical gem composed as a commission for the BBC in the 1940s.
