January 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Finnish kantele player Martti Pokela. In honour of the centenary, three of his descendants wish to honour their grandfather’s musical legacy by combining forces in a trio with a larger orchestral line-up.

This hosted concert is an exciting celebration of 70 years of twinning by the cities of Kotka and Tallinn. We are also delighted to welcome two guests from Estonia: star pianist Johan Randvere, one of his country’s most interesting international young musicians, and Peeter Vähi, the composer of inspiringly exotic and meditative music

The artists in this concert both have roots in Central Europe, which also provides the substance for the programme. Krzysztof Dobosiewicz and Kymi Sinfonietta clarinettist Csaba Rajnai first joined forces nearly 20 years ago for the premiere of Dobosiewicz’s first clarinet concerto.
